Communication is essential in life. The advancement of technology over the past couple centuries has changed the way people talk to each other. With technology at this point in time, communication between billions of people across the world happens continually. With that communication comes the contact of different languages. Thus when those who cannot read or who don't understand another language encounter an image instead of text, they are less confused. So images can be very helpful, but it is better if they are used only when necessary. Text is important to convey deeper meaning than images alone and establish good communication.

The idea from this article that stuck out to me the most was that with the internet and technology, "the world really does revolve around you" (641). The author of the article argues that this can be a bad thing. I agree with that argument because when we live in our own world that we have customized with our technology, we don't have much to relate to other people. Without shared experiences, it is usually difficult to even begin a conversation. Without knowing where to start, fewer conversations are begun and fewer connections are made. The internet does have advantages, but it also has many disadvantages, one of them being the negative impact on communication and time spent with other people.

In this scholarly article about how writing has evolved over time, I learned more about the beginnings of writing systems and how they evolved until today. The article talked about how in early societies as people began to create crafts and become more creative, at around that same time was when they started to write. I found it interesting that humans have pretty much always had an inherent need to express themselves. Putting thoughts into words has been popular since it began and writing's import has created an evolution over time. Today there is a constant stream of new ways to express ourselves through text, technology, and the internet. So where we are today is because of those who lived thousands and thousands of years ago and their need to express themselves.

Digital Literacy Autobiography

All of my computer knowledge began because of my dad; he received a Bachelor of Arts in Electronic Engineering Technology and his jobs have involved computers since around the time I was born. I first learned to use a computer when I was about four years old. At that time my favorite thing was to play a computer game that prepared kids for kindergarten. I'm not sure when I first learned to use the internet. That knowledge came as I got older and learned more. Social media sites didn't interest me in the beginning even though I grew up around computers. The first social media website I joined was Facebook. My cousin convinced me to join when she and I were staying at our grandparent's house over Thanksgiving break in 2009, my sophomore year in high school.

Getting supplementary online support can help me in this course and other courses because the information accessible on the internet is almost limitless. The good thing about that support is it can help me to learn new information and succeed in my classes. The bad thing is the possibility of using the information to pass a class and not learning anything or even using the internet to cheat. To minimize the bad and maximize the good I can focus on learning and succeeding.
